Tips for living in this moment
By: Marissa Anteby
"Be in the moment," is a catch phrase used so often it has lost its full impact. We read it, hear it, say it, but don't truly do it! We think about staying aware of our surroundings, yet distractions get the better of us and we're easily diverted. Maybe the key, after all, is not concentrating on what's going on around us. Perhaps the way to get 'present,' is to go inward. Observing your own thoughts, feelings, emotions, sensations, and more can be the first stage of connecting to everything outside of you.
Watching the natural rhythm of your breathing without altering it in any way, can help quiet other thoughts. Sounds simple huh? Try it for a few seconds, even just a couple and you'll find that it's not as easy as it seems. Judgments creep in, and perceptions are altered. The reality or truth of each new moment becomes relative to your view of it. However futile it may appear, the more you practice, the easier it becomes to find the elusive 'truth' and be present with the 'now.'
