Tips for designing rooms to boost brainpower

Tips for designing rooms to boost brainpower

You can actually design a room to enhance brainpower. The way energy flows in room, has a direct correlation to how well you can think, while you are in that room, and beyond. In order to encourage creative ideas to bubble to the surface of your mind, you need to have the proper balance of stimulation and relaxation in your room. That optimal balance is different for each person and even varies at different times for the same person. Here are some general guidelines:

- Your mind, like your body, functions at its best, unrestricted. So look for areas with wide horizons, open floor plans, or en suite alcoves. This will help you think big, and allow a small spark of an idea to ignite a chain reaction.

- Loft space is particularly grandiose and can really get positive energy flowing quickly. You'll need to furnish it properly in order to keep the energy from becoming overwhelming.

- Mirrors can open up a small room, making it appear larger. However, be mindful of what is reflected; the room may also seem twice as filled with objects, thus stifling the flow of new thoughts.

- Energy moves more strongly near windows, so consider positioning your desk near a window. Choose complementary window coverings that fit in with your design scheme, and help in containing the energy. You don't want your ideas flying right out the window!

- Having different patterns and textures around can further boost your imagination. This doesn't mean you have to go all wild and crazy. Even soft muted variations of similar stripes, checks, or polka dots, can achieve the desired effect.

- Artwork triggers creative thought patterns. Go to different museums to see which types of pieces 'speak' to you. When placing artwork in your room, start with one piece at a time. Then slowly group like objects together. This can be achieved through like colors, textures, or similar subjects.

- Tidy up. To enhance original ideas, keep your work area well lit, ventilated, and open to fresh thoughts by dusting off counter tops and surfaces that have a tendency to remain stagnant.

Most of all, get to know what works for you. Where do you feel most creative? How can you bring some elements in to your space that will put you in the state of mind you're seeking? Ultimately, you're the one that will have to find the answers for yourself.
